Colorado River Bend

I always feel a special connection to nature’s vastness and to being part of a bigger picture when I am outside in a desert storm.    In this view of Canyonlands near Dead Horse Point, I could feel the change in air pressure, the increase in humidity, the gathering winds.  Down below, the Colorado river was not yet impacted. Yet soon the distant lightning and thunder would proceed a blackening sky just before the sudden deluge.  Fortunately for me this time, I was able to view the event from the comfort of my car!

This painting won the Dick Blick Award at the Spring Show of New Mexico Watercolor Society in 2012.
